Phonics...

This learning evaluation record was completed after a literacy session during professional practice phase 1A. I prepared a Christmas themed task which involved the children writing writing a wish list to Santa.

I believe the children thoroughly enjoyed the task.

I provided writing stimulus by talking about Santa, what happens at Christmas and that it is important to say please and thank you. Additionally I used a present word mat to help children visualise their ideas.

Although this was a writing task it required the children to use their phonetic language to sound and write the words. However my phonetic knowledge was not brilliant.

After this observation I committed myself to observing various phonics sessions in order to see the different levels and how it is delivered.

This has worked towards achieving the target outlined in the record form. I believe I have improved my knowledge with the help of seminar sessions at university too.

My target for future practice would be to deliver a series of phonics sessions confidently and to actively monitor pupil progress.
